Kids' Birthday Party Venues in McKinney, TX: Parks, HOA Spaces, and Backyards
Last checked September 2026. City rules and fees change, so confirm with the city before you book.
Planning a kids’ birthday in McKinney comes down to one big choice: where. Your own yard, your neighborhood’s amenity area, or a city park can all work, and each has different rules. Here is how each option works, what to reserve and when, and where a mobile playground fits in.
Option 1: Your own backyard or driveway
This is the simplest route, and the one most McKinney families choose. A small private party at your home does not need a city permit. McKinney’s special event permit is for larger gatherings of 75 or more people that involve things like street closures, tents or stages on public property, or selling items.
A few things to check first:
HOA rules. Some communities limit vendors, trailers, or street parking. A quick email to your HOA or management company settles it.
Space. The Signature Mobile Playground needs about 30 by 20 feet of flat space on grass, driveway, or pavement, plus a clear path to roll the trailer in. Narrow gates and tight side yards are the usual surprises, so measure first or send us your address and we will confirm.
Power. You do not need an outlet. Our operator brings a generator.
Option 2: HOA amenity centers and neighborhood green space
McKinney’s master-planned communities, including Stonebridge Ranch, Trinity Falls, and Craig Ranch, have clubhouses, pools, and common areas that residents can often reserve. Reservation rules, deposits, and insurance requirements vary by community, so ask before you choose a date. If your HOA asks for a certificate of insurance (COI), we provide one.
Option 3: McKinney city parks
Parks are popular for bigger guest lists. Here is what the City of McKinney’s parks pages say right now:
Most pavilions are first come, first served. That includes Finch Park pavilions Monday through Thursday.
Two parks take reservations through the Recreation Center at Towne Lake, 972-547-2690. Posted fees are $30 for residents and $50 for non-residents.
Finch Park: reservations are for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Residents can book up to six months ahead and non-residents up to three months. Requests are due by noon on the Thursday before the weekend you want.
Towne Lake Park: rental windows are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m., with the same Thursday noon deadline.
Erwin Park pavilions are unavailable while the park is closed for renovations. The city says the closure lasts about a year.
Old Settler’s Park: the city’s parks FAQ lists Old Settler’s Recreation Center at 972-562-8310 for pavilions there, so call and ask how they are handled.
Equipment rules. The city says inflatables are allowed at pavilions if Parks and Recreation has proof of liability insurance on file and the inflatable has its own generator. A playground trailer is not an inflatable, so call Parks and Recreation Admin at 972-547-7480, describe the setup, and get a yes before you book. We provide a COI for your booking, and our operator brings a generator because most parks have no outlets.
Bigger events. A special event permit costs $100 (non-refundable) and needs to be submitted at least 60 days ahead. Events in a park also need Parks and Recreation staff approval.
A simple planning timeline
6 or more weeks out: pick your date. Weekends fill first. If you want Finch Park or Towne Lake Park, send your reservation request by the Thursday noon deadline for that weekend.
1 week out: confirm your guest list. The playground is built for children ages 10 and under and under 125 pounds, with up to 12 at a time.
The day before: check the forecast and clear the setup spot.
Planning for Texas weather
Shade and cooling make a big difference: tents, fans, and misting fans are available as add-ons on our pricing page. If rain, storms, or unsafe heat make play unsafe, our Big Fun Promise lets you reschedule at no charge, and we monitor the weather before every event.

McKinney Birthday Party Questions
Do I need a permit for a backyard birthday party in McKinney?
Generally no. The city says small private backyard parties do not need a special event permit. Permits are for larger gatherings of 75 or more people that involve things like street closures or tents on public property. Check your HOA's rules too.
Can I reserve a pavilion at a McKinney park?
Yes at Finch Park and Towne Lake Park, through the Recreation Center at Towne Lake at 972-547-2690. Posted fees are $30 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Most other pavilions are first come, first served.
Can you set up a mobile playground at a McKinney park?
Possibly, with the city's approval. McKinney's published rules cover inflatables, not playground trailers, so call Parks and Recreation Admin at 972-547-7480 and describe the setup. We provide a certificate of insurance and bring our own generator.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to 3 weeks ahead is ideal for a backyard party, and sooner for holiday weekends. If you want a reserved city pavilion, start there first, since requests are due the Thursday before the weekend.
